Trail Bike
This is the bike you have in your head when somebody says "mountain bike". With less travel than an enduro bike (typically 120-160mm, front and usually rear), and suspension designs optimised for climbing as well as descending, this is the all-rounder.
Until recently 26 inch wheels were standard for this genre of bicycle, but in the last couple of years trail bikes with 27.5 and even 29 inch wheels are also popular options.
Trails are located across the UK, and with some of the best riding in the world to be found in Scotland and Wales, trail riding is one of the most popular cycling disciplines at the moment.
