All Mountain / Enduro Bike
Enduros differ from downhill races which contain little or no climbing and from cross country races which place the majority of their emphasis on the riders' cardiovascular systems.
Enduro races feature a greater proportion of downhill sections (which are timed) to uphill and cross country sections. The aim is to test the rider's bike handling skills as well as their endurance and climbing prowess.
The bikes are lighter than downhill bikes, usually featuring frames of butted aluminium or carbon fibre, but still utilising a lot of the same brake and suspension technology. The geometry is designed so that riders can climb on them, but this is not a priority point. Again, 26 inch wheels are common, but 27.5 inch wheels are also becoming popular in the discipline. 29 inch wheels are not unheard of either! The slightly larger wheels provide more traction and carry more momentum around the course whilst still being manoeuvrable. 150-180mm of travel is usual.
